Dear Dr. Ecommerce

When a customer decides not to buy product X from you, because you are out of stock, and takes his business elsewhere should you include his information in your demand data?

You've generated no revenue but you want to do what you can to ensure a future sale. Should you risk investing more money in product X inventory or should your limited resources just be allocated to those items that have generated $ sales?

Thanks,

Barry

Dear Barry:

If you want your company to grow, then you should include the product in your demand data. After all, you lost the sale because you had insufficient stock of the product.

Good luck,

Dr. Ecommerce
