25 Apr 2001, Macedonia Dear Dr. Ecommerce, I am the President of a Management Consulting Association in Macedonia. My country is going to "catch" the e-Train to EU. Could you suggest me what has a country to do if it likes to be "harmonized" with EU e-movement? Thanks in advance Ljubomir
Dear Ljubomir: I put your question to E-Policy News Editor Elina Kaartinen, who answers: "e-Europe+ is an initiative by and for EU candidate countries (Even though Macedonia is not one of the candidate countries, a similar model could be applied there since your country has these structures through your own programmes.) in the area of e-Europe. The initiative was taken as part of the Commission communication on e-Europe in Stockholm Council March 2001. A little bit of background: At the European Ministerial Conference held in Warsaw on 11-12 May 2000, the candidate countries recognised the strategic goals agreed at the Lisbon European Council and undertook to take up the challenge set by the EU Member States by developing their own eEurope-like Action Plan - eEurope+ - that would adopt all the strategic goals and objectives of eEurope, but contain their own specific national measures and target dates. More information and contacts (also country by country) can be or one can write on the issue of e-Europe/e-Europe+ to: Post correspondence: European Commission e-mail: europeaid-info@cec.eu.int Headquarters: EuropeAid H/5 (Information and Communication) Tel. +32(0)2-29-91111 Good luck, Dr. Ecommerce
