9 Apr 2001, UK

dear doctor

I came across your site by accident. "Well done," is all I Can say. However one question I need answered is:

Concerning Internet shopping, what will the effect of a European Directive be on English Law and how does it come into force in Europe?

Shaid

Dear Shaid:

The e-commerce directive, like all directives coming from the EU, must be implemented in all member states within a given time frame. The deadline for implementation is given in all directives under the heading "Transposition" and is typically 18 months from publication in the "Official Journal". In the case of the e-commerce directive, it states:

"Member States shall bring into force the laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with this Directive before 17 January 2002. They shall forthwith inform the
Commission thereof."

Good luck,

Dr. Ecommerce
