Dear Dr. Ecommerce:

What is the best way to get a product to be e-commerced? What
are the steps to follow or is there any?

Thanks,

Heikki

Dear Heikki:

Why, to sell it on the Internet, of course!

How that is done depends very much on the product and the company selling it. If a company or individual only has a single, or small number of products to sell, the best way to do it is probably to sell it via one of the on-line auction services such as eBay or Amazon auctions (there are many others - and check to see if they have a service in your country/language).

If you have a small product line to sell, you should look into setting up an on-line shop in one of the many e-malls being set up. Yahoo Shopping is probably the best known of the on-line malls. But there are many more. These essentially provide you with the basic infrastructure to set up an on-line shop, accept on-line transactions, etc.

If you have a large number of items to sell, you will probably want to set up a complete, unique, on-line presence. In this case, you will need to design your web site and on-line catalogue, set up secure pages for transactions, set up a shopping cart system and more. Normally, you would hire skilled staff or contract a specialist firm to do all of this work.

Good luck,

Dr. Ecommerce
