2 Nov 2000, Ireland

Dear Dr Ecommerce,

I am a student at the University of Ulster and at present I am doing a project on e-commerce and its effect within the European Union. I need to know how the EU is supporting e-commerce-through funding?- through training and sharing good practice and information?-does the EU offer incentives to companies pursuing an e-commerce policy?-also What kind of statements funding the EU institutions, particularly the council and commission have made regarding this area?

I hope you can help me regarding my queries as it would greatly help my research into this subject.

Yours sincerely,

Jacqui

Dear Jacqui:

The European Commission is giving away funding by the sack full for companies implementing e-commerce. My old part of the Commission, the Information Society Directorate General primarily provides funding for research and technological development in the Information Society (which includes e-commerce) via the IST Workprogramme.

The Enterprise DG also supports e-commerce. Take a look through their web pages for more information. The Education and Culture DG may very well be throwing some of their own money at e-commerce related training. Take a look at their site to find out

Finally, do put your question to the eThesis forum. I expect you'll get even more info from the helpful students there.

Good luck,

Dr. Ecommerce
