Dr Ecommerce,

I work in the UK as part of a European Marketing Team of an Online Store whose headquarters and origins are actually based in Canada. Could you please recommend where I can go to get information relating to the rules/regulations/differences of marketing over the Internet across the various EU States. For example - free gifts with orders for christmas. Would this be allowed in Germany?

Thank-you for your help,

Regards,

LB

Dear LB:

Sadly, and to the best of my knowledge, such a resource does not exist. And it is for this reason that some friends and colleagues in the European Commission are trying to develop such a resource (see www.ispo.cec.be/ecommerce/events/legalportal.html).
Unfortunately, it will be some time before such a project can be realised. In the meantime, you need either to hire a good lawyer or search out the resources on a country by country basis.

Good luck,

Dr. Ecommerce
