Dear Dr. Ecommerce:

We are a large ISP in Kenya. The Kenyan credit card network (VISA) is for use in Kenya only. Therefore Kenyan Credit Card Transactions can not be validated on existing Online Gateways around the world. Since the majority of Kenyans only have local credit cards this is stifling the growth of E-Commerce.

We are looking for a software development company who has developed the technology for accepting credit card transactions over the web and interfacing with the credit card network at the back end for authenticating transactions. Most of the companies that we have approached who already provide these services (such as Cybercash (in the US) or Worldpay (in the UK), have developed these applications in-house. We have so far failed to find a software developer who has this application and is ready to sell the technology to enable us to have a gateway in Kenya.

Do you know of a vendor of this technology or, if not, how we can find one?

Thank you,

Richard

Dear Richard:

Take a look at the "Secure Electronic Transaction LLC web site at http://www.setco.org/ - you'll find links to a lot of software solutions. Hopefully some of them will suit you.

All the best,

Dr. Ecommerce
