Dear Sirs!

That's my first visit to your site and it would be great to learn more about what exactly European Commission does in the field of e-commerce.

Thanks in advance,

with respect

Ia

Dear Ia:

The Commission does a lot in the area of e-commerce, actually.

1. Via the eEurope initiative, the Commission is promoting the use of e-commerce, Internet, etc, throughout the European Community.

2. The Commission is working to develop a common legal framework for e-commerce. The Commission is very much aware of the confusion that results from each member state having unique laws regarding e-commerce. Hence the effort to make the legal mess less messy. In a couple years, I expect it will be as easy to do e-commerce between two member states as it is to do e-commerce within a single member state.

3. The Information Society Directorate General is promoting and funding e-commerce research and technological development in e-commerce and related areas via the IST Workprogramme.

4. The Enterprise Directorate General is supporting small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in taking up e-commerce.

All the best,

Dr. Ecommerce
