Dear Dr. Ecommerce,

Hello I am from Cyprus and I would like to know your opinion regarding security on e-commerce. Are all these security services and security mechanisms secure enough?

Charalambos

Dear Charalambos:

Are door locks secure enough?

Security in electronic commerce is a wide ranging issue and there is no simple answer to your question. There are extremely good security systems on the market today and they are getting better all of the time.

However, just as you can have an excellent lock on a fragile door, it is possible to have an excellent security system on a poorly protected web site. For example, hackers often get passwords to highly secure systems simply by calling people who have access to the system and asking for them! For detailed information about security and security issues, please take a look at our Security page at http://www.ispo.cec.be/ecommerce/issues/security.html. and at the International Commerce Exchange web site at http://www.icx.org/.

If you are concerned about a particular aspect of security, please write me again with more details and I will be happy to give you a more precise answer.
